With the MIPS camera on Spitzer, we have searched for far-infrared emission from dust in the planetary system orbiting pulsar PSR B1257+12. With accuracies of 0.05 mJy at 24 µm and 1.5 mJy at 70 µm, photometric measurements find no evidence for emission at these wavelengths. These observations place new upper limits on the luminosity of dust with temperatures between 20 and 1000 K. They are par...
متن کاملScale relativity and Quantization of the Planetary System Around the Pulsar PSR B 1257 + 12
The theory of scale relativity suggests that, at very large time scales, classical laws should be replaced by a non-deterministic, quantum-like description. The theory gives up individual, localized trajectories, but it yields the probability density of families of virtual trajectories, as deduced from a generalized Schr6dinger equation. In this paper, we compare the system of three planets rec...
متن کاملNew sub-millimeter limits on dust in the 55 Cancri planetary system
We present new, high-sensitivity sub-millimeter observations towards 55 Cancri, a nearby G8 star with one, or possibly two, known planetary companion(s). Our 850 μm map, obtained with the SCUBA instrument on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope, shows three peaks of emission at the 2.5 mJy level in the vicinity of the star’s position. However, the observed peaks are 25′′–40′′ away from the star an...
متن کاملMigration of Asteroidal Dust
Using the Bulirsh–Stoer method of integration, we investigated the migration of dust particles under the gravitational influence of all planets, radiation pressure, Poynting–Robertson drag and solar wind drag for equal to 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.25, and 0.4. For silicate particles such values of correspond to diameters equal to about 40, 9, 4, 2, and 1 microns, respectively [1]. The relative error p...
متن کاملThe Triple Pulsar System Psr B1620−26 in M4
The millisecond pulsar PSR B1620−26, in the globular cluster M4, has a white dwarf companion in a half-year orbit. Anomalously large variations in the pulsar’s apparent spin-down rate have suggested the presence of a second companion in a much wider orbit. Using timing observations made on more than seven hundred days spanning eleven years, we confirm this anomalous timing behavior. We explicit...
